This progress reflects our commitment to providing spaces and resources that inspire and empower everyone in our diverse community.
As we begin 2024, we embrace new beginnings and exciting possibilities. With fresh leadership and a clear vision, we look forward to building on the groundwork laid last year and continuing to innovate and connect with you.

Our physical collections saw an impressive 1.28 million circulations, reflecting the vibrant demand for books and materials across our community.

We welcomed 653k visitors to our branches, each engaging with our services and spaces in meaningful ways.

Digital engagement soared with 364k checkouts of eBooks, e-audiobooks, and e-magazines showcasing our community's growing embrace of digital resources.

Introduced Experience Passes, expanding access to local attractions like the Aga Khan Museum, Bata Shoe Museum, Black Creek Pioneer Village, and McMichael Canadian Art Collection. In 2023, 1,573 passes were distributed.

Launched Wi-Fi hotspot lending in October, providing internet access to 55 customers by the end of the year.

Added digital resources, including:

Kanopy for streaming acclaimed films and TV shows.

Consumer Reports for trusted product reviews and ratings.

LifeSpeak for expert-led mental health and resilience resources.

Introduced VOX Read-Aloud Picture Books, offering a screen-free, network-free storytime experience.

Installed an interactive games table in the Central children’s area, featuring collaborative and educational games like puzzles, air hockey, and dominos.

Partnered with the City of Richmond Hill and Library Settlement Partnership to launch Get to Know Your City, a year-long program designed to help newcomers learn about the community’s resources and services.

Collaborated with CBC for two major programs:

CBC Creator Camp: Provided young creators (ages 16–24) in Richmond Hill the opportunity to learn digital storytelling from CBC personalities and TikTok influencers. Winners received a paid internship with a CBC Toronto journalist and the chance to create content for CBC platforms.

CBC Kids Book Club Live: Hosted a live event at our Central Branch to celebrate the 2023 TD Summer Reading Club.

Expanded outreach at Hillcrest Mall, hosting our first Summer Reading Club Launch Party, March Break programs, and a Back-to-School Colouring Contest.

Hosted Lit Mix, our first mixology class, at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts, hands on fun with community connection.

Added new Virtual Author Talks in partnership with the Library Speakers Consortium, bringing diverse voices and stories directly to our patrons.

Established a service design and innovation practice to modernize and improve library offerings.

Redesigned and developed the rhpl.ca website with a modern layout and updated sitemap, creating an improved look and user experience.

Replaced Early Literacy Stations in children’s areas with upgraded models.

Conducted our first Annual Customer Satisfaction Survey to gather valuable community feedback.

Enhanced Richmond Green and Richvale branches with new service desks and sorters.

Upgraded the children’s area at Richmond Green and the study area at Richvale.

Upgraded the Central Library boardroom with hybrid meeting technology for flexible and accessible use.

Retired the outdated telephone notification system, iTiva, improving communication methods with patrons.

Completed an organizational realignment to streamline roles, enhance stability, and improve communication. The process introduced new capabilities in customer research, data analysis, finance, and HR, laying the groundwork for a stronger and more unified library system.

Hosted a Team Creativity Day and staff training sessions to foster collaboration and innovation.

Conducted a Workplace Violence Risk Assessment to ensure staff and patron safety.
