Experience Passes at the Library

An RHPL card is your ticket to explore Ontario! Borrow an Experience Pass with your library membership and get free general admission to museums, art galleries, and parks. 

Passes are available to adults with an RHPL card on a first-come, first-served basis. Limited quantities are available, with new passes added every Friday. Review our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) below for full details on how you can borrow an Experience Pass. 

Need a membership? Everyone who lives, works, or attends school in York Region is eligible for an RHPL card

Aga Khan Museum

The Aga Khan Museum provides visitors with a window into the artistic, intellectual, and scientific contributions of Muslim civilizations to world heritage. Founded in 2014, the museum sparks wonder, curiosity, and understanding of Muslim cultures and connections with other cultures through the arts with over 1,000 masterpieces.

Pass Details: Free general admission ticket only. Not for use with other ticketed events. Non-transferable, one-time use only. Conditions apply.

Bata Shoe Museum

The Bata Shoe Museum displays over a thousand shoes and related artefacts, chosen from a collection of nearly 15,000 objects, in architect Raymond Moriyama’s iconic, award-winning building.

The BSM celebrates the style, development and function of footwear across four impressive galleries, with displays ranging from Chinese bound-foot shoes and ancient Egyptian sandals to chestnut-crushing clogs and glamorous platforms.

Pass Details: One pass includes Library member and group (maximum two adults and four children under 18) to free admission during regular public hours. Non-transferable, one-time use only. Conditions apply. 

Black Creek Pioneer Village

Discover this living history site and experience a recreated 1860s village of the Toronto region, complete with over 35 restored buildings, farm animals and gardens. 

With 40 heritage buildings to explore, 50,000 artifacts to examine, and daily activities led by costumed educators, Black Creek Pioneer Village  encourage visitors to explore the past while reflecting on our present.

Pass details: Free general admission to an RHPL cardholder (ages 13+) and group of up to four persons of any age. RHPL card must be shown.  

 

McMichael Canadian Art Collection

The McMichael Canadian Art Collection is the only public fine art gallery in the nation that focuses on Canadian art and the Indigenous art of our country, both historical and contemporary. The permanent collection consists of over 6,400 artworks by Tom Thomson, the Group of Seven, their contemporaries, and First Nations, Métis, Inuit and contemporary artists who have contributed to the development of Canadian art.

Pass Details: One pass gives free admission for one adult or senior. Non-transferable, one-time use only. Conditions apply. 

Ontario Parks

Enjoy over 100 provincial parks by borrowing an Ontario Parks day-use vehicle permit from Richmond Hill Public Library! Visit your nearest branch during regular opening hours to pick up a pass and start exploring. 

Pass Details: An Ontario Parks Vehicle Permit allows one vehicle and all of its passengers to enter Ontario's parks at no cost. Passes must be returned to a library branch during opening hours, and can be borrowed for up to seven days. If the permit is not returned on time, you will be billed replacement costs.

How do I borrow an Experience Pass?

A limited quantity of passes are available at the main desk of each branch. They are signed out to RHPL cardholders (ages 18+) on a first-come, first-served basis. Our supply of passes is replenished each Friday. 

What do I need to get an Experience Pass?

Adults who bring their library card to the branch will be able to receive an Experience Pass. Cards must be in good standing with no outstanding fees owed to the Library. 

You must be 18 years or older to receive an Experience Pass. 

Don't have an RHPL library card? Everyone who lives, works, or attends school in York Region can get an RHPL card

How many passes are available? 

Each branch is given a limited quantity of passes every week. Passes are replenished on Fridays, and are available as soon as your branch opens.  

How many passes can I borrow?

You can borrow one Experience Pass per week based on availability. You can't borrow the same pass more than once in a six-month period.

Do I have to return my pass?

With the exception of Ontario Parks Passes, all Experience Passes will be collected at participating venues. 

Ontario Parks passes must be returned during your local branch hours. 

Can I place a hold on a pass?

Passes are available on a first-come, first-served basis while quantities last. No holds can be placed on a pass. 

When can I use a pass?

Details on when passes must be used vary at each venue. Most passes can't be used during special events, and must be used within a specific time period. Please review your passes for hours and admission details. 

Is parking included with my Experience Pass?

With the exception of Ontario Parks passes, parking fees are generally not covered with each Experience Pass.
