Tazeen Qayyum: In the Shadows Exhibit

Tazeen Qayyum is a Pakistani Canadian, multidisciplinary artist. Trained as a miniature painter of South Asian and Persian traditions, Qayyum explores materials and processes through drawing, installation, sculpture, video and performance. She has a new exhibition at Central Branch in the Glass Case Gallery.
The artist's exhibit is her reflection on global crises caused by unjust wars. Typically viewed with repulsion and aversion, the cockroach motif in her work serves as a social commentary on how the value of human life is diminished by discrimination and intolerance. Her art also conveys everyday stories of resilience. Qayyum’s work offers a message of survival and the need to understand one another, liberate our identities, overcome fears, and focus on care.
